My name is Dr Michele McDowell. I am an educational and child psychologist with over 18 years’ experience of working directly with children, parents, schools and also as an expert witness for the family courts. I also offer a distinct array of methods from my experience as a psychologist, special educational teacher and coach to support children, young people, parents and professionals. I have a wide range of experience in: Assessing, advising and supporting children and young people with attachment difficulties, neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, executive function deficits, behavioural difficulties, Internet, gaming and screen time addictions and other neurodevelopmental diagnoses. I hold a Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology, a Master’s in Educational Psychology and Masters in Special Education needs. In addition I have been trained in numerous modalities such as; Hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques, and Positive Psychology techniques. I have been the nominated expert offering advice on some of these topics, in numerous online and print publications, and have become a proficient and regular media commentator. In these uncertain times the world is facing challenges where as parents we are struggling to manage looking after our children and getting everything done. I offer parent coaching to provide support, knowledge and guidance on how to achieve parenting goals. I work with children and young people aged 0-25 years old supporting their parents with reducing problematic behaviours, and developing positive alternatives. At this time we maybe relying on technology to help us more than usual. I know it can be tricky to find a balance between using screen time for learning, social interaction or gaming. I offer; Information about the possible affects technology has on our brains. This guidance can be used immediately by parents to support their child /young person to build a healthy relationship with technology even during COVID 19. In addition I offer expert advice from my experience as a child psychologist and mother.  It’s never too late to change a child’s technology habits, improve your relationship with them and feel happier. My spare time finds me enjoying a good book, journaling and building on the foundations between my son and I, creating strong family bonds. It’s also been an absolute delight during lock down to also fill many hours of excitement as I begin writing my first book! Stay safe and healthy Dr Michele xx
